A Couple Of Weeks

Martin sining \"Solid Rock\"

I’ve just realised it’s been a little quiet on the blog front recently. I’ve been fairly busy, in fact it’s been almost non-stop. On 15 February Rosie and I headed “oop North!” to visit friends Pete and Ali, something we’d last done in August last year. It’s great to catch up with people you haven’t seen in sometime finding out what each other has been up to.  On the way up we’d arranged to see Christian band Delirious? play at Lincoln cathedral.

We had a great drive home, apart from a slight emergency when we ran out of a windscreen washer fluid and couldn’t find a garage on the M1 for about 75 miles. D’oh! While the Monday, for me, was a write off Rosie had to work. And so began Tuesday, I’d planned to split my time between the ACC and Links International offices but half way through the morning I received a phone call offering me the chance to goto the world famous Abbey Road recording studio.

Work at ACC has been a little busy. Though I’m pleased to say that I’ve managed to achieve one of my long term goals. The Arun Community Church podcast has been rethought and rewritten and is alive. I’m hoping it will be live on the iTunes Store by the end of the week. Though if you want to subscribe now click here, for the Sunday Teaching, or here, for the Jabez breakfast. I’m hoping that a third ACC Podcast won’t be too far away,

Abbey Road - London

Abbey Road

It’s been over two months since I’ve last blogged here, which is pretty slack so I thought it was time for a bit of an update.

It’s the winter so things have been a little bit quiet but things are starting to pick up. So, what have a been up to?

Well, I’m working on a few bits and bobs for ACC. With Jim Bailey I’ve completed one gig in Hollywood (which, incase you didn’t know is also a suburb of Birmingham) and one failed gig in Warwick. For those who are interested it failed due to a “Police Incident” on the M25 which meant in 3 1/2 hours we got as far as Heathrow Airport.

As it’s been quiet I’ve taken a couple of breaks. One to Germany and one to see friends in Durham.

This year has seen some excitement. I was lucky enough to get to visit the world famous Abbey Road recording studios with the Compassion Art project. I’m also hoping to be back out with Onehundredhours in the near future.

The $25,000 Question

MoneyOn one of my many trips into the world of Google Reader I was presented with the lifechurch.tv blog. I found this interesting as they’ve already gone done some of the routes I’d like to look at with ACC. However, an article that really caught my eye was about Church planting. Specifically, if you had $25,000 (approximately £12,500 and I’m not American, honest!) to start a new Church or, I’m guessing, a fresh expression of an existing Church.

So, here’s how I’d spend my “imaginary” $25,000.

Firstly, an interactive web portal that can connects Church “membership”.

Secondly, a good youth worker who could come on board part time.

Thirdly, a small, loud but transportable PA system. Preferably with one wireless microphone.

Fourthly, sort out a partnership with a small to medium sized Coffee shop. Which I’d already expressed I’d do in this post.

I don’t really have a clue what it’d look like. Or, how it would work. And it opens up certain questions. Should Church be marketed? Or planned? Should Church be completely spontaneous? Should we, as Christians, use worldly values and techniques to spread our message?

I’d like to know your opinions. Where would you spend the money? What are your thoughts on my questions?

Oh, and if you happen to have $25,000 - don’t give it to me. Though I do know where it could be used…

The last iPhone post

iPhone

It’s just short of a month since I purchased my iPhone and at times it’s been a little stressful. Some of that is the network, I’m not a huge fan of o2. Some of that has also been the steep learning curve I’ve gone on to be able to get where I am now.

Right now I have sat beside me an unlocked Apple iPhone working quite happily on T-Mobile. All the data services are working and I’m just about to setup MMS support thanks to Swirly MMS.

You certainly need to have some balls to perform the procedure. Especially when all the funny writing starts appearing, but it’s worked and it’s quite a phone.
